Sue did not look at Christmas as a time of peace and good will but of chaos and fear, because her husband was drinking. Her despair caused her to turn to the Lord for salvation. Later Martin saw the peace and joy in Sues life. He wanted to have what she had, so he gave his life to the Lord in 1998. Since then, worship of the Savior has replaced drinking as the focus of Christmas in the Bear family.
