Howard was raised in an alcoholic home, greatly affecting his self-image. While he was in Sault Ste. Marie for high school, his parents became believers. The incredible change he saw in his father gave him the desire to also accept Christ. After high school his brother Abe encouraged him to go to Bible school, and later got him to join him in a music group called SonRise, which has greatly shaped his life and ministry.
